Awesome Mandolin, but there are minor scratches. Appreciate for extra wires, picks, tuner and carry bag. The bag has smooth zips.

Got this as a beginners mandolin. Have been "playing" it for a week now. Having some trouble keeping the G strings tuned. Luckily, it came with a tuner. Doesn't have the full rich tone as the more expensive mandolins,but for the price, it sounds pretty good. Looks nice too! I am overall happy with this mandolin. Great for beginners.

The mandolin was received without damage. I wouldn't say the packaging was sufficient to keep it from damage. I think I was lucky. It was in the gig bag which I'm sure helped protect it some. Overall I'm satisfied for what I paid, for what I received.

As a complete beginner's mandolin, it was easy to tune and has a good tone (I think, I have no comparison). and VERY good value. Arrived safely with all the basics (great case, tuner, spare strings, strap etc). I love it, can't wait to get started, Greensleeves here I come. It looks really great too. I had wanted a bowlback traditional (possibly vintage) mandolin, but their restoration needs and playability were questionable/expensive. This Donner mandolin has a more contemporary twist, and is immediately playable.

I looked at a lot of Mandolins for a beginner. This was a perfect choice for me. I have a guitar, bass and banjo that I haven't played for awhile. Decided to start playing again to try and help my peripheral neuropathy. The small neck on the Mandolin helps me more easily get my fingers in playing shape which helps make it easier for me to play my other instruments. I really like this package which included a nice bag, picks, tuner, extra strings and a polishing cloth. Glad for the extra strings as I broke one while tuning the Mandolin. I'm a beginner, but I like the way this Mandolin plays and sounds. Seems to be built well. Nice looking. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to learn to play the Mandolin. It's a small investment to find out if you will like playing the Mandolin. The playability and sound won't discourage a beginner. I am thoroughly enjoying this instrument. Playing music again is so much fun and I believe playing is helping my peripheral neuropathy.

I was so pleasantly surprised when i opened my package. The mandolin was expertly packed! The gig bag is very high quality and the included accessories are high quality too. The mandolin itself is flawless. No imperfections that i can see. Mine is a beautiful gloss black and the hardware is quality chrome. I like the little bit of heft that the mandolin has. I've never owned one before so i was unsure of the weight of one. I have many guitars, violins and ukuleles. I'm so eager to get this tuned up and start playing. In a few days i'll come back and update my review with my thoughts on the playability. Overall, so far, i'm super happy with this purchase.

The fretwork is really very good. No buzzing, only a few mildly sharp fret ends but nothing major. The binding is immaculate, and it really pops against the gloss black.
The action was playable out of the box, but after the setup I did, this thing rings like a bell. A lot of punch, and much more sustain than I expected. At this price point, assume a setup is going to be necessary. Again, not a deal breaker.
I was a little concerned upon delivery as the box was open. I included a photo. I don't know whether there was more padding in the box originally, but I hope so. Thankfully, there was no damage to the instrument. It was in it's gig bag which was itself tightly packed in another box.
It's really nice that they included an extra pack of strings, a cleaning cloth, picks, and a tuner; although, I do have a slight problem with the tuner I received. See photo. I've sent an email about it. We'll see.
As a guitar player looking to get into mandolin without a big investment, I definitely recommend this pack. It's easy to play and easy on the eyes. My only critique is with the Donner logo. I really wish they'd let me design a better one for them :)
